Griffin Sherry, a Bonny Eagle High School senior, has been nominated to compete in the national Principal’s Leadership Award scholarship program, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Sherry is the recipient of the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award for 2006.
Griffin is the son of David and Sandy Sherry of Buxton. Sheila Jepson, principal of Bonny Eagle High School, announced the nomination, which places Griffin in the national competition. Mationally, there are 150 Leadership Award winners chosen to receive $1,000 college scholarships.
High school principals throughout the country nominate one student leader. Nominees are selected based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience and academic record. They also were required to write an essay.
Principal Jepson said, “Griffin Sherry was a clear choice for this award. His leadership as class president has been excellent. He has juggled his many responsibilities as class president in addition to being active in theatre, music and sports and maintaining a 3.38 grade point average.”
“Griffin is well-known by his classmate and is well-spoken,” she added, “I am thrilled to have Griffin as the recipient this year. He is undoubtedly a clear leader, not only as class president for the past four years, but also a leader in the classroom. He is a positive role model for students and school community.”
