Construction of the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center, located at the County’s communications bunker on High Street in Windham, is reportedly ahead of schedule.

The 6,600-square-foot communications center, being built by Pilot Construction Company and local sub-contractors, is running a few weeks ahead of its projected timetable primarily due to warm weather over the winter. As a result, much of the anticipated normal seasonal delays were avoided and the building is essentially “closed in.”

Much of the grading and landscaping will be completed in the next few days; the roof is complete, and partitions and sheet rocking has begun inside the building. Rough wiring and plumbing will be completed during the next couple of weeks, and finish work will then proceed.

The $1.2 million dollar project is being done as a result of needs determined by the 2001 County Strategic Planning Committee. Bill Holmes, communications center director, said, “the building will house a state of the art dispatch and E-911 center for several County communities, with more municipalities requesting cost saving information regularly. We look forward to serving our customers better than ever with this new facility.”
