Victims of the fire that destroyed the six-unit apartment building at 195 Brown St. on April 26 will receive additional help from a benefit supper on May 20 at St. Hyacinth’s Church on Brown Street.

At this point, almost all of the victims of the fire are in new apartments, including Cinnamon Riddell and her four children. She moved into a recently built Peoples Regional Opportunity Program apartment on North Street this past Saturday, said Cindy Murphy of the Frenchtown Neighborhood Association. According to Murphy, the apartment is “beautiful.”

Sherry Riley of the Salvation Army’s River of Life said she believed all but one of the residents had found a new home, although she couldn’t confirm that. Murphy agreed that all but one of the tenants had found a new home, as well, and that the Salvation Army was still helping that tenant.

The money raised at the benefit supper will go to the Salvation Army on Bridge Street, the money being divided to help the six families, according to Murphy. The supper will be held on Saturday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Hyacinth’s Church Hall on Brown Street. Donations will be $6 for adults and $3 for children, with a maximum of $20 per family.
