Westbrook police are investigating a River Street stabbing that occurred last week.

A New Jersey man visiting a resident at 4 River St. at approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 11 was stabbed after two men reportedly entered the apartment in an apparent robbery attempt.

Abdul Johnson, 29, of New Jersey, was transported by rescue to the Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The resident, Deborah Vannah, 24, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court for an operating after suspension charge.

Police Chief Paul McCarthy said two men reportedly forced their way into the residence and robbed Johnson and Vannah. He said he didn’t know yet what was stolen. Johnson sustained knife wounds and the knife was recovered.

McCarthy also said a car was stolen from across the street on the night of the stabbing. Police are unsure if the incidents are connected but are continuing to investigate. They are investigating leads and have not identified any suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to notify Det. John Desjardins at 854-2531.
