Memorial Day plans
George Gerrish, commander of Gorham Memorial Post 10879 of the VFW, said that two parades – one in the village and one in Little Falls – are planned as usual in Gorham for Memorial Day.
Those wishing to march in either or both parades should contract Gerrish at 727-6965 or Don Veilleux, senior vice commander at the VFW post, at 839-6102.
Town Councilor Cal Hamblen is hoping a large contingent of the town’s veterans of all ages would participate in the parade.
Three in ‘Gypsy’ cast
David Bragdon, Janelle LaSciuto and Julia Parmakian, all of Gorham, are cast members in the Portland Players’ production of “Gypsy.” The show runs through Sunday, May 28, at 420 Cottage Road in South Portland.
Bragdon is playing the role of an older boy; LaSciuto plays Louise; and Parmakian is the blonde.
The show is being presented at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. The show opened on May 12. Tickets are $19; $17, seniors and children.
To reserve tickets, call the box office at 799-7337. The Joe Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund will receive $1 from each ticket sold.
Bailey performs with dance company
Jen Bailey of Gorham is a member of the senior company dancers at the Drouin Dance Center in Westbrook.
The company will hold its recital on June 3 in South Portland and compete at the Dancers, Inc., National Dance Championship in July in Portland.
Danielle Drouin, director of the dance center, said they recently completed a “very successful” season in competition. Their three entries took three gold medals in the Showstopper Regional Dance Championships in Brockton, Mass.; in the Starbound Dance Championships in Concord, N.H., they received one high gold award, one gold medal, and one high silver award; at the Dancers, Inc., Regional Dance Championships at South Portland High School, they received a gold medal and two high silver medals besides a special award for creativity.
Meals on wheels talent show
The Westbrook-Gorham Meals on Wheels program is having a community talent show at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Westbrook High School.
The show is a fundraiser for the Southern Maine Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels.
Tickets are $7; $5, students and seniors.
Hawkes’ artworks in auction
Artwork by Kevin Hawkes of Gorham will be among those of several Maine artists in the Visiting Nurses of Southern Maine’s fifth annual art auction at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at Black Point Inn in Scarborough.
The event, “Art of Caring,” includes a gala reception with hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Tickets are $45.
