Police arrested two alleged drug dealers in South Windham on Monday night in a sting operation that netted large quantities of morphine and Oxycodone, both narcotic painkillers.
Tipped off by a “confidential source,” undercover drug agents staged a drug deal outside an apartment complex at 9 Main St. where Joseph Cyr, 28, of Windham, and Melissa Dill, 28, of Scarborough, attempted to sell undercover agents the narcotics, according to police.
Assisted by state and federal agents, Windham police arrested Cyr and Dill without incident. A search of Cyr’s apartment at 9 Main St. uncovered more than 3 morphine pills, several Oxycodone pills and less than an ounce of marijuana.
“We got some information and were able to put (the drug bust) together quickly,” said Lt. Dave DeGruchy. “It was a successful operation. Because of teaming with state and federal agents, we were able to pull it off.”
Both Cyr and Dill face charges of “unlawful trafficking and possession of Schedule W drugs.” Cyr is also charged with possession of marijuana.
At the time of the arrest, many children were playing outside the apartment complex while the sting took place in the parking lot, police reported.
The apartment complex is a popular hangout for local teens and has attracted police attention in the past. A group of teens has repeatedly vandalized nearby houses and harassed their neighbors to the point that many are reluctant to talk about the problem in fear of retribution.
Cyr and Dill posted bail on Monday, but were arrested again the next morning after a harassment complaint from an apartment neighbor. According to police, Cyr and Dill were banging on their neighbor’s windows on Tuesday morning and, as a result, were taken into custody in violation of bail conditions.
Cyr and Dill will be arraigned in Cumberland County District Court on July 17.
