As Windham is more and more developed, old roads become filled with houses. Fortunately, a few of the original places remain. On the Land of Nod Road, 100 years ago, this house was one of only four or five on the length of the road. Once Land of Nod Road went right by this house, across the field to Canada Hill, exiting at about where the Sawyer Road is now, off Anderson Road. Granite from this area was used for many of the buildings in Portland and other cities. Charles A. Cobb, a stonecutter who made use of the many granite cliffs in the area, built this house in 1863 on land which was handed down from his great-grandfather, Peter Cobb.
