As of May 1, the greater Portland area’s Metro fleet includes 13 compressed natural gas buses and the first natural gas fueling station in Maine. The Metro provides bus service to Portland, Westbrook, the Maine Mall and Falmouth.

According to Metro, the buses were built by Orion with natural gas engines developed by John Deere and will feature air conditioning and seating for 40 passengers. The natural gas fueling station, which will feature North American natural gas, is available to other vehicles using natural gas.

To commemorate the introduction of the buses and fueling station, Metro and Maine Clean Communities held a ceremony in Portland on May 1 and offered free rides all day on all routes.
