Youth cross country starts soon
Scarborough Community Services is sponsoring a spring cross-country program for boys and girls in grades three to six. Practices will be held twice a week, Monday and Thursday, from 2:30 to 3:30. Those interested should meet at the track near the intermediate school. Practices will be at the school complex, with running taking place over the fields and trails around the schools. Beginning May 3 a series of meets will be held every Wednesday at various locations beginning at 4:15 p.m. The championship meet will be held May 31. Races distances will vary according to age. Former high school runner Adam Johnson will direct the program. Registrations will be taken at the Scarborough Community Service office.
Legion ball tryouts
There will be a tryout Sunday for the Libby-Mitchell American Legion Post 76 baseball team at 430 p.m. at Wiley Field, off Tenney Lane, near Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough. Players should bring glove, hat and spikes, and be prepared to play. Players must also bring an original copy of their birth certificates and be prepared to fill out a player registration form. Libby-Mitchell is authorized this year to give tryouts to boys 15 thru 19 from Scarborough, Windham and Buxton. Also, boys who played on the team last year are authorized to tryout, regardless of where they live, and players cut from any other Legion team are eligible to tryout for Libby-Mitchell.
