The early spring and the onset of warm weather has allowed the Public Services Department an opportunity to get an early start on spring street striping and crosswalk painting.
The initial emphasis is being placed on crosswalks in critical areas where pedestrian safety is paramount. Crosswalks on William Clarke Drive, the downtown area and Stroudwater Street are being addressed first.
At Mayor Bruce Chuluda’s request, crosswalks on William Clarke Drive are being painted bright yellow in an effort to further call motorists’ attention to these often used crossings.
Centerline striping, directional arrows and selected crosswalks will be completed during the second week of May.
Poirier Guidelines has been contracted to perform this early May striping effort. Public Services painting crews monitor crosswalk conditions throughout the spring, summer and fall in an effort to ensure that adequate visibility is maintained.
Residents are encouraged to call the Public Services Department at 854-0660 with questions regarding the seasonal street striping program.
