First grade students in Internet projects

The children in Peggy Townsend’s first grade class at Jack Memorial School in Buxton are having a good time learning to use a computer.

Each week, the students have a new computer workshop. The activities in the workshops vary from finding information on the Internet about hibernating animals or planets to using a drawing program to designing a cover for a book they have written.

The class has also participated in two Internet projects. The Groundhog Day weather project involved recording weather conditions on Groundhog Day and sharing those results with classes across the country.

The second project is the Tooth Tally. From February through April, the class has been keeping track of the number of teeth they have lost. They share the results with first graders across the country and around the world.

To see the results of the Internet projects and some of the other computer activities, go to the district Web site at www.sad6.k12.me.us and click on the Jack Memorial page and scroll down to Townsend’s home page and enjoy a peek into the classroom.
