Full Court Press honored

Charles Norman, chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District, recently announced that Full Court Press has been chosen to receive its Outstanding Business Partner award.

Full Court Press, a full service graphic design and printing company, will receive their award today, April 19, at the district’s annual dinner meeting in the North Scarborough Grange. “In 2005, Full Court Press went above and beyond the call of duty to meet our printing needs,” Norman said. “Your willingness to work with us to accomplish our projects resulted in a quality product that we were proud to distribute. You consistently met our impossible time frames at an affordable price. You frequently exceeded expectations and we appreciate your efforts.”

The award is reserved for a business that provides assistance to the district in carrying out its mission to protect Cumberland County’s natural resources.

Beach day at WRVC

Although the outside temperature was 35 degrees, the students and children at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center decided to have a beach day.

A large, child size swimming pool and 400 pounds of sand turned their usual lab nursery into a beach.

The children are taught by high school students, who are future early childhood teachers from Westbrook, Scarborough, Bonny Eagle, Windham and Gorham.

The lab nursery will be taking applications for the 2006-2007 school year. The nursery is for ages three through five.

Mary Phelps is the pack’s cubmaster.

After touring the battleship Massachusetts, destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., submarine Lionfish, PT boats 617 and 796, and the Russian missile corvette Hiddensee, the scouts with their parents and adult leaders spent the night on Saturday, April 8, on board the U.S.S. Joseph P. Kennedy.

Battleship Cove’s Nautical Nights program included a storyteller, major motion pictures, knot tying and Morse Code classes. The trip enabled the scouts to better understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by veterans of all military branches in all wars. “Our Cub Scouts truly had a fabulous time getting lost in their military imagination and scurrying into every nook and cranny. It was also a treat to listen to the older gentlemen who were stationed on the Massachusetts,” said Trish Weimer.
