A group of 11 students and three adults of the Rotary Interact Club from Gray-New Gloucester High School, sponsored by the Windham Rotary Club, has just returned from Mississippi where they assisted communities ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

While working with a group called Service International, the students painted, delivered Sheetrock, organized a food pantry, worked on single family homes clearing and picked up debris.

Victoria Hartig, president of the Interact Club said, “The people of Long Beach, Mississippi were very receptive to volunteers and thankful for all their efforts.”

Some of the students plan to return back there this summer for further relief efforts and hope to spread the knowledge they have gained, to our local community.

Those participating included Victoria Hartig, Matt Robertson, Chad Kelsey, Bria Pollard, Alyssa Baldenelli, Jessica Ramsdell, Augusta Hannel, Chris Bennett, Sam Burke, Alina Sherlock, Mark Cutter and Jen White.
