Kick the habit
Bonny Eagle High School recently held a “Kick Butts Day.”
The Bonny Eagle Health Club sponsored the student event. During all three lunches at the high school, students had the opportunity to talk to health group members and to Chanda Johnson, the Youth and Community Program Coordinator, Communities Promoting Health Coalition.
Kick Butts Day is an annual celebration involving youth as leaders in the fight against tobacco use. The BEHS Health Club/Youth Advocacy Group has taken on the task of promoting non-use of tobacco products.
The group constructed a display of giant cigarettes and made posters showing information on the negative affects of tobacco as well as the positive outcome of “quitting” smoking. Their message is that it is healthier to “never smoke” but “quitting” is also a healthy choice.
The Bonny Eagle Health Club members: Tanja Shuffleburg, Amanda Murray, Jen Murray, Kristen Murray, Stephanie Hill, Tim Johnson, Jessica Clark, Decker Lenard, Caitlin Boissonneault, and Chelsea Belanger. The event was coordinated by Cyndie Lane, an alcohol/drug counselor.
