The Windham Police Department plans to revamp the look of their police cruisers. And police officers have called upon local artistic talent to help out with the new look.

In the spirit of community involvement, the department has opened a logo designing contest to the Windham public. Whoever creates the best design (to be judged by the officers) will win $200.

The new design will replace the yellow “Windham Police” logo with yellow and white stripes now on the cruisers.

“The officers and members just wanted a new design for the cruisers,” Officer Matt Cyr said. “The discussion was that this might be a great way to involve the community and the police department.”

There are only a few design requirements for artists to keep in mind. The words “Windham Police” must appear on both sides of the cruiser and must be clearly legible, says Cyr. The color scheme must also be compatible with the dark blue color of the cruisers. No badge designs, no town seal and no slogan either. The rest is up to the imagination of Windham’s artistic talent.

Officer Cyr hopes some of Windham’s young artistic talent will submit their ideas for the new logo. He’s been in contact with Windham High School art teacher Jeff Bell to spread word about the contest to get art students involved.

All entries must be submitted to the Windham Police Department at 375 Gray Road no later than May 1. Final judging will be complete by May 15.
