The Baxter family home was once located on the present site of the Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St.

Now adjacent to the library, the home was moved to its present location in 1907 to make way for the library. The home and library were gifts to the town by James Phinney Baxter. He was the father of Percival P. Baxter, who became a Maine governor. The home is now the Baxter Museum.
