Clements on dean’s list
Meghan Clements has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.

Amy Lindeman has been named to the dean’s list at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., for the first semester.
Shaw graduates basic
Air Force Airman Martha L. Shaw has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Shaw is the daughter of Edward and Carole Shaw of Lois Lane.
During the six weeks of training, Shaw studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies. She also performed drill and ceremony marches along with physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.
Graduates also earn credits towards an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. She is a graduate of South Portland High School in 2005.
14 of Cheverus honor roll
Cheverus High School in Portland recently announced that 14 students from Gorham were on the honor roll for the first semester.
They are Sarah Slater and Siobhan Arey, seniors; Rebecca Slater and Matthew Arey, juniors; Andrew Gleason, Max Haslam and Benjamin Peter, sophomores; and Kenneth Martin, Nicholas Couturier, Mackenzie Crosby, Beau Haslam, Nathaniel Lawson, Annie Ledoux and Melissa Slater, freshmen.
Sarah Slater, Rebecca Slater and Martin achieved high honors.
Bauer in USM honors recital
Johnathan W. Bauer is one of 12 musicians selected to perform in the University of Southern Maine School of Music’s 2006 Honors Recital.
The recital will be at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, in Corthell Concert Hall on the university’s Gorham campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
Bauer, a baritone, is the son of Jim and Mary Bauer of Gorham. He is a vocal performance major, studying with Ellen Chickering. Bauer was home schooled through high school and studied voice with Linda Freeman.
He has soloed with the university’s Chamber Singers and Chorale. He has previously performed in the Honors Recital and has been a three-time first place winner of the Maine Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition.
Bauer also attends classes at New England Bible College in South Portland. After graduating, he would like to become a missionary and use music to share the Gospel with people.
Now in its 28th year, the Honors Recital showcases the school’s most talented students in solo performances.
Montalvo hires export manager
The Montalvo Corporation has named David Wei Weng as export marketing manager.
Weng was born in China and is fluent in English. He’ll be responsible for helping the Asian, South American and Australian markets understand the web control industry and how to work with a U.S. company. Montalvo specializes in industrial web control systems.
He comes to Montalvo with signicant experience in customer service. Weng was manager of the customer support center for IBM China and is an IBM certified professional server specialist.
Weng holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Beijing Union University, a master of computer science degree from Lamar University in Texas and an MBA from the University of Florida.
Cutline: Alexander Crosby of Gorham will travel to Atlanta, Ga., as a member of the Clarkson University robotics team to compete in national finals.

Alexander Crosby, a sophomore, is a member of the Clarkson University robotics team that will compete in the national finals in April in Atlanta, Ga.
Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., recently won first place in regional competition in Rochester, N.Y.
Named “Division by Zero,” the Clarkson team topped 30 teams in the regionals.
Transfer station closing
The Gorham Transfer Station will no longer be open to the public as of Sunday, April 2.
The Town Council voted unanimously at its March meeting to designate Plan-It-Recycling as the disposal site for solid waste.
The transfer station will still accept used motor oil by appointment only, Monday through Thursday between noon and 1 p.m. Please call for an appointment. It will also accept leaves and grass clippings anytime during the spring and fall seasons.
Spring and fall brush drop off will be held on two Saturdays in the spring and fall. Dates and times will be published and posted on the town of Gorham Web site prior to the event.
As an alternative, residents can take any appliances, wood, etc. to Plan It Recycling & Transfer Inc. on Route 25 next door to Crockett Furniture near the Westbrook town line in the Gorham Industrial Park. They are open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The phone number for Plan It Recycling & Transfer is 854-5353.
