The Maine Residents Property Tax and Rent Refund program was revised this year to make more households eligible and to raise the amount of the refund.
A household earning the Westbrook median household income of approximately $38,000 and paying property taxes of $2,700 may be eligible for a $590 refund from the Maine Residents Property Tax and Rent Refund program.
In addition, single people earning less than $74,500, who have a property tax bill greater than 4 percent of their income and families earning less than $99,500, who have a property tax bill greater than 4 percent of their income, are also eligible for the same refund.
Any eligible residents have until May 31 to apply for the refund program.
Residents can stop by the Westbrook Assessor’s Office at Westbrook City Hall to pick up an application, or call 854-9105 for more information.
