Buxton residents will have the opportunity next month to weigh in on a new public works garage proposed on town land on Portland Road.
The Buxton Planning Board will hear public comment on the garage plans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 10, in Town Hall. The garage would be located adjacent to Town Hall.
The Board of Selectmen, which is proposing the project, wants a separate driveway to serve the garage. The driveway has been the center of a difference of opinion between members of the two boards for months. Barbara Elwell, a Planning Board member, felt the additional driveway is necessary. “I think we should look at this seriously and stop fussing over a driveway,” Elwell said on Monday.
Cliff Emery, chairman of the Board of Selectman, hoped that planners would have scheduled the public hearing this month. He said the proposal has been discussed since June.
In other action, the Planning Board set a public hearing for Monday, March 27 for a project proposed by Ira Stockwell on Justin Merrill Road. Stockwell is asking to build a medical office, workshop, retail and professional office space at the intersection of Narragansett Trail and Justin Merrill Road.
The board also heard a proposal by TruChoice Federal Credit Union to build a branch on nine acres across from Gorham Tractor on the northeast side of the intersection of routes 202 and 22.
Also, Ricky Bodman of Line Road has submitted an application to amend the Pine Ridge subdivision, approved in 1992, for another house.
