On Wednesday morning, area fire departments responded to a blaze at Point Sebago Resort in South Casco.

Firefighters from Casco, Naples, Raymond quickly contained the fire, which consumed a seasonal rental modular unit on the resort’s grounds. Otisfield personnel provided station coverage.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the state fire marshal’s office. According to Casco Fire Chief John Small, the blaze started when a maintenance man turned the heat on to the modular unit in preparation for making repairs. After turning up the heat, the man left the building and returned about five minutes later. Upon return, the structure, which is being deemed a complete loss, was on fire.

Once fire crews arrived, Small said the fire took a total of 30 minutes to extinguish. The siding of a nearby structure was singed as well. Small estimated the damage at between $30,000 and $50,000.
