Postponed from early February because of last of snow, the Mushers Bowl Winter Carnival will take place Mar. 17-19. There will be several contests taking place throughout the weekend.

On Friday, Mar. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Olde Town Hall in Bridgton the Chamber All-Stars will take on the Bridgton Police and Fire Departments in the DARE Basketball Classic. Admission will be free with the carnival button and $5 without the button. Donations for the local DARE program will also be collected throughout the evening.

Other events on Friday night include a Wine and Cheese reception at Gallery 302 in Bridgton highlighting youth art. A variety show featuring Maine Stage Reader’s Theater presenting “Love is Not a Simple Thing” takes place at Poland Regional High School starting at 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday will feature sled dog races, if there is enough snow at Five Fields Farm in Bridgton. Races start at 9 a.m. and run into late afternoon.

Beginning at noon on Saturday, Mar. 18 will be a ping pong event at the olde town hall. Entry will be free with a carnival button and without the button it will cost $1. Six tables will be set up with paddles and balls, or you may bring your own equipment. You may enter a competition, play for fun or just come to watch some good ping pong. Trophies will be given out for seven divisions: open rated players, 60 years and older, 59 years and younger, doubles, ladies, 21 years and younger and 12 years and younger. Appropriate footwear for the gymnasium floor is highly recommended.

Sunday, Mar. 19 will be the Broomball tournament. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on the Highland Lake Beach. There are currently 11 committed teams and if you have a team and you wish to compete, call the chamber for rules and to sign up 647-3472.
