Police are still investigating the circumstances of an assault last week in which a 23-year-old male was bound and beaten at his home in Casco.

The victim claims two brothers – Michael McDonald, 23, of Raymond and Brian McDonald, 21, of Bridgton – knocked out his teeth, robbed and threatened him with both a gun and an axe after a night of drinking.

Last Wednesday night, the three met at Doug’s Bar in Naples. After drinking together at the bar, the victim invited the brothers back to his trailer on Rosewood Road in Casco.

Inside the trailer, their casual night of drinking turned violent as the brothers allegedly bound the victim with a computer cord and ducktape, beat and threatened him with his own handgun and an axe.

The brothers allegedly stole the victim’s wallet, keys and firearm before fleeing the premises and also broke into his roommate’s room, however nothing has been reported stolen.

After freeing himself from the binds, the victim called his family who contacted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department. A family member transported him to Bridgton Hospital where he was treated for multiple injuries.

The alleged assailants were arrested that night at Brian McDonald’s home in Bridgton and taken into custody.

Police charge the brothers with aggravated assault, burglary, theft by unauthorized taking and terrorizing. The brothers posted bail the next day.

Police would not disclose why the brothers threatened and assaulted the victim, but did say the McDonald brothers presumably went home with the victim to confront him on an undisclosed matter. The brothers and the victim have given differing accounts of what actually transpired in the trailer and now police are relying on physical evidence to discern the truth.

“One person says one thing, the other says something different, and somewhere in the middle is the truth,” said Capt. Donald Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
