The Mission Possible Teen Center welcomed new members to its board of directors recently.
New members on the board include Westbrook School Resource Officers Daniel Violette and Brian Dell Isola, Hannaford Manager John Parvin, Barbara Soloway of the Westbrook Housing Authority and city employees Brenda Bergeron and Michelle Mecteaux.
Bergeron, who works in the city’s Human Resources department, said she joined the board because she wanted to give something back to the community. “As a lifelong resident of Westbrook, a city employee and a Westbrook business owner, I wanted to be more involved and volunteer in the community,” she said. “I admire the work that is done at Mission Possible for Westbrook’s youth and feel it is a good fit to what I was looking for as a way to give back to our community.”
Violette said he felt it was a natural fit to be a part of the teen center’s board since he deals with teens as the school resource officer for Westbrook High School. “I thought it would be a good thing to provide my perspective to the board from the things I see at school,” he said.
For Parvin, he said he was attracted to the teen center partly through Hannaford’s commitment to the community, but also because as a teen, he went to a center like Mission Possible. “When I was a teenager, I attended a center like this,” Parvin said. “Volunteering is something I have a passion about.”
Mecteaux, the administrative aide to Mayor Bruce Chuluda, said she joined the board becuase she believed the center was doing vital work for Westbrook kids. “I was interested in offering my support to the center because I feel that it’s an important resource for Westbrook’s youth, not to mention it’s a good way for me to get involved and give back to the community,” she said.
