On Feb. 15, the Wescott Junior High School Building Committee provided an opportunity for Westbrook residents to learn about and weigh in on the new junior high school project.
The meeting was intended to prevent any incorrect information from floating around regarding the renovation or construction of a new school, according to RenA?© Daniel, the committee’s chairman. I
Daniel invited 35 residents whose properties are adjacent to the schools’ properties to attend the meeting. Only a handful of neighbors attended this first meeting. However, Daniel intends to send out the meeting’s minutes to those same 35 residents, along with an invitation to the next meeting.
Plans for the new school are in the very early stages, although the committee is leaning towards renovating or building a new school in the same general area as the existing school. At the meeting, committee members focused on how renovation or new construction would affect abutting neighbors. Members also outlined the process through which city and school officials must go, in partnership with the state, to complete the project.
