GMS spaghetti benefit

A spaghetti dinner “cook-off” from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, at Gorham Middle School on Weeks Road will benefit the eighth grade trip to Washington D.C. this spring.

Sauces for the dinner will be provided by Amato’s, Gorham House of Pizza and Sebago Brewing. Tickets are $5 or $20 per immediate family; grandparents are $5 extra. Reservations at 222-2413.

The event also includes a silent auction from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Some of the items include a $100 gift certificate from Crockett Interiors; $100 gift certificate from Bella Donna; twin handcrafted Adirondack chairs from Davis Woodworking; a three-day summer horseback riding camp from Perkins Farm; $75 gift certificate from Thatcher’s restaurant; $50 gift certificate from Lucinda’s Day Spa; $50 gift certificate from Holistic Pathways; one night stay, Inn on Peaks Island; $75 collectable gift basket from Top Shelf Collectables; tickets from the Portland Stage Co.; free bouncer rental and lawn mower tune up from V&M Rental; and more. A student art exhibit and a specialty desserts and coffee concession will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Birthdays for Gorham corporations

Two corporations in Gorham are among the state’s oldest.

Gorham Savings Bank turned 138 Tuesday. It was incorporated on Feb. 21, 1868.

The Gorham Farmers Club, incorporated on March 7, 1861, is 145 years old. The club was founded to insure real and personal property against loss by fire or lightning.

Morneault on dean’s list

Bethany Morneault has been named to the dean’s list at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., for the fall semester.

Morneault is a junior.

Swish-Out hits record tally

The 12th annual Dr. Noel Paradise Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge basketball tournament raised a record $19,667 in this year’s event on Feb. 12 at the Gorham campus of the University of Southern Maine.

Since its inception in 1994, the tournament has raised more than $75,000 for the Maine Children’s Cancer program.

This year, defending champion To Life Chiropractic of Falmouth won the event for the third time. Twenty-eight coed teams from organizations, businesses and families in southern and central competed this year.

Casco Federal Credit Union of Gorham, Maine Credit Union League of Westbrook and the university were among the event’s sponsors. The tournament is named for the late father of Jon Paradise, governmental and public affairs manager for Maine Credit Union league.

“This is truly an example of community coming together to help children with cancer and their families,” said Jon Paradise, the tournament’s director and founder.

Free Ecumenical dinner

The Gorham Ecumenical Commission will host its monthly free community dinner at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, at First Parish Church, 1 Church St.

The event offers fellowship and friendship to everyone in the community.

A special Saturday at Baxter

Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St., is sponsoring a special Saturday morning story time at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. The program includes picture books, songs, activities and a craft.

Registration is not necessary.

John Drisko, principal of Gorham High School, will address the eighth-grade classes at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Gorham Middle School on Weeks Road.

Airbrushing at Art Guru

The Art Guru is offering “Airbrushing for Beginners” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights beginning on March 1.

The cost of the class is $150 for those who already have an airbrush or $250 who would like a brand new airbrush. To register or for more information, call 839-6138.
