Schoolhouse Arts Center at Sebago Lake is offering a wide variety of classes in the arts this spring. Classes start February 28 and run through May 20. Tuition for classes varies from $50 to $125.
Theater classes for children and youth at Schoolhouse include Preschool Creative Dramatics for ages 2-5, Storybook Theater for ages 6-10, The 1/2 Pint Players for ages 8-14, Acting I for ages 10-12, Acting II for ages 13-18 and Stagecraft for ages 12 and up.
New this semester is Preschool Creative Dramatics which is being offered on Thursday mornings with preschool art classes, and gives preschoolers a chance to have their own classes while mom enjoys some much needed adult company.
Another new class to the Schoolhouse schedule is The 1/2 Pint Players for ages 8-14. This is a two-hour ensemble class on Saturday mornings where students will actually work on and perform a short play to be presented at the end of the semester.
And, if you are enrolled in Acting I or Acting II, you get a 50 percent discount on the tuition for The 1/2 Pint Players. Stagecraft for ages 13-18 is also new this spring. This class will give students basic instruction in set and lighting design, as well as the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on productions. The popular Adult Improvisation for ages 18 and up is back again this semester. In this class, beginners or experienced actors improve their stage skills utilizing theater games and improvisation techniques. And, they seem to have a lot of fun at the same time!
Music classes for children and youth at Schoolhouse include Voice I for ages 8-12 and Voice II for ages 13-18. Guitar I and II is being offered again this spring for ages 7 and up, as well as the Beginning Youth Orchestra for all ages. This orchestra is a great opportunity for youth to play their instrument with a group and gain exposure to orchestra music. Schoolhouse also offers Adult Voice for ages 18 and up.
Art classes for children and youth at Schoolhouse include Preschool Big Messy Art for ages 2-5, Theme Art for ages 7 and up, Drawing from Life for ages 8-12, and Photography for ages 12 and up. New this spring is a Life Drawing Studio for artists ages 18 and up on Saturday afternoons. Live models will be used for these open studio sessions, so artists are encouraged to bring their own materials for drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. and enjoy the informal feedback and discussion with other artists.
Dance classes for children and youth at Schoolhouse include Creative Movement for ages 3-5, Kiddie Hop for ages 4-6, Beginning Ballet and Beginning Tap for ages 4-7, Hip Hop for ages 7-9 or 10-14, and Introduction to Tap & Ballet for ages 8-12. Schoolhouse has added some adult dance classes this semester including Adult Hop, Adult Tap, and Pilates.
Schoolhouse also offers classes in Japanese Culture & Language for ages 10 and up, Conversational French for ages 8 and up, and new this semester, Introduction to Gardening for age 18 and up.
Schoolhouse Arts Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to learning and creating for family and community. All classes are taught by experienced instructors. Schoolhouse is located near the intersection of Routes 35 and 114 in Sebago Lake Village.
