This is the old Legrow house on Route 202, a perfect example of an old Windham farm. It replaced another house which stood here. John Morrell tore the old house down and started to build a new house. He never finished it, due to sickness, and the property was sold at auction. According to the writings of Charles Legrow, “In 1915, my father John Legrow who had married Bertha W. Hall, bought the place for $1,200; finishing most of the downstairs by kerosene light, after working all day. I was born here May 25, 1908 and married Gladys P. Clarke in 1938. My wife and I now (1971) own the place. The present barn was built in 1923 by John Legrow.” Last week, Gladys Clarke Legrow passed away at the age of 94. She had been a widow for many years. (Windham Historical Society has records and photos of many old Windham houses, and continues to catalog the old buildings in town.)
