With Central Maine Power warning of rolling blackouts, are you prepared for power outages?

Danielle Merrill, 20, Bridgton

“I don’t think so. I haven’t really thought about it. I didn’t think something like this would happen. I didn’t know CMP could do that, cut out power like that.”

Ajay Taggar, 34, Windham

“I am not prepared at all. I take my electricity for granted because I pay my bill. I don’t even have a flashlight. We are spoiled.”

Richard Pendexter, 59, Harrison

“Yes. But I’m not home very much because I’m an over-the-road trucker. I have a backup 5,000-watt generator. If they do it in the summertime, I’d say the older people could handle it a lot better. But if we had a blackout in the winter, I think that would be a hardship for the older people, especially.”

Sarah Bean, 26, Gray

“We don’t have a generator or alternate power supply. And we pay a lot of money on our utility bills each month. I wasn’t aware that we would have to deal with the frustration of a blackout. It’s kind of a scary thought for people who have infants. You need power for baby monitors, bottle warmers, etc. You need air conditioning and heaters. This is news to me, though. I’m going to have to research this.”

Lisa Freeman, 30, Bridgton

“Not at this moment – but I will be. My husband and I are going to buy a generator. If there was a power outage, we would lose our deep freezer with about $500 worth of food in it. That would be a lot of money down the drain.”

Larry Pelletier, 74, Casco

“I am prepared as 95 percent of the people are…which means none! We had a camp in Eustis that had a generator for lights at night. And my son and I are building a camp in Lincoln and we are thinking seriously about installing one there. And I’m also thinking about putting one in my house, someday. But they’re so expensive.”
