I hope that 2006 is starting off well for you – and that you’re ready to explore new learnings with adult education. In order to keep the Adult Education program vital, we try to offer new and creative classes each semester. We don’t always know what will be popular! American Sign Language and the Indoor Walking program were so popular that we’ve already had to close them. I’m thrilled with the response we got, but I’m sorry for those of you who were turned away. We plan to offer these again next fall, so make sure you register early!
I wish I had the space to mention all the classes being offered for our Winter/Spring semester, but here are just a few. I hope you’ll be tempted to try one! We’re offering eBay again. There will be a 4-week section for newcomers and a 2-week follow-up class for those of you who wished there had been more time last semester! We’re also offering a Basis Digital Photo Editing class using Elements 3.0.
We have many one-night workshops. Try the Bead Making Series with Kristin Phaneuf, including Pearl Knotting Basics. I wish you could see Kristin’s jewelry – it’s beautiful! Have you ever wondered what it would take to Become a Notary? Join us and find out! Along with repeating Babysitter’s Training, the Red Cross has agreed to offer Pet First Aid. Do not bring your pet! Trooper Bill Ross returns for a workshop on Alcohol and Drug Awareness Among Young Adults and will repeat Protect Your Identity.
Think Spring and take one of our gardening classes with Betsey Golon or Nancy Stedman: Butterfly Gardening, Perennial Plant Design and Create Your Own Cutting Garden. (Note: the dates have changed for the Perennial Design class.) MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association) is also offering Grow Your Own Organic Garden Workshop. Travel with us to Boston for the New England Flower Show. Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 18 and register early. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Great New England Landscapes.” Save on gas and let us do the driving!
You should learn a lot from the Better Fishing Series: Aquatic Ecology, Fish Biology, Angling Techniques and Practical Applications. It begins the end of February, and if you take both parts, the last night will be spent on the river! Or come try The 5-Step Clutter Remedy by anti-clutter doctor Solange K.! There are also a few finance workshops including Understanding Credit Reports, Getting Control of Your Credit Card, and Small Business Basics.
Also, please remember that if you, or someone you know, didn’t complete high school, there’s still time to earn your GED for June graduation. You can also join the online, Distance Learning program for GED instruction.
