A lab is analyzing what is believed to be prescription pills found on Monday in the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.

Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said the pills were uncovered during a canine drug search at the jail. There were no charges Tuesday, according to Goulet.

Canine teams from eight departments participated in the search. Steven Crocker of Westbrook Police and Sears Edwards of Gorham Police took part in the search with their dogs. “It was good training for the canine teams,” Goulet said.

A Sheriff’s Department statement said that any individual who is found in possession of prison contrband, is prosecuted and charged by the sheriff’s office. The search was aimed at finding contraband that might have been smuggled into the jail and to deter future smuggling.
