Katie Cook and Stephanie Shepard were named, respectively, the junior and senior athletes of Saturday’s SMAA meet at the Portland Expo as Windham’s girls track squad piled up 108 points for a strong win.

Cook raced to victory in the jr. 40 and jr. 200, while Shepard took the tape in the sr. 40 and sr. 200. Kate McPherson (sr. hurdles) and Vanessa Rallis (jr. hurdles) also won individual events for the Eagles. In addition, the 4 x 210 sr. relay and 4 x 210 jr. relay teams each took first place.

Biddeford (84) finished second, ahead of South Portland (49.67) and Portland (41.33).

The Windham boys finished well behind those same three opponents in their meet. Travis Cook was the squad’s only first-place finisher, winning the sr. 40.

Joe Bailey won a pair of events to lead Bonny Eagle’s boys track team to victory in their meet. The Scots collected 101.5 points, edging Thornton Academy (98.5), while Scarborough (88) took third ahead of Cheverus (35).

Bailey took first in the jr. 400 and the jr. hurdles, winning the latter for the third straight week. Teammates Ben Roy (sr. 400), Greg Gadbois (sr. hurdles), John Wiechman (shot put) and Evan Semle (int. 400) also won individual events, while Bonny Eagle teams also broke the tape in two relays – the sr. 4×280 and jr. 4×140.

The Scots’ girls team finished with 58.3 points, behind Scarborough (120.3) and Thornton (102.3) and ahead of Cheverus (11). For the third meet in a row, Kelly Martin won the jr. 400 for Bonny Eagle.

In last Friday’s Western Maine Conference meet at USM, Lake Region’s Miles Bartlett won both the mile and two-mile races, while Kevin Floster broke the tape in the 800. Sarah Hale raced to victory in the sr. 55 for the Lady Lakers.
