Annie Mills won a pair of track events at Saturday’s SMAA meet at the Portland Expo to lead Scarborough’s girls squad to victory for the third week in a row.

Mills took first place in the jr. 200 and jr. hurdles, helping the Red Storm compile 120.33 points to edge Thornton Academy (102.33), Bonny Eagle (58.33) and Cheverus (11).

The win was especially important because TA, with the talented Jenny Pierpont, was runner-up to champion Scarborough at last year’s state meet.

Joining Mills in the win column were Whitney Chamberlain (jr. 800), Allison Chamberlain (sr. 400), Hilary Curtis (sr. 800), Erica Jesseman (mile), Kaitlynn Saldanha (600), Devon Leighton (high jump) and the jr. 4 x 210 and sr. 4 x 410 relay teams.

The Red Storm boys performed solidly, but fell short with 88 points, behind Bonny Eagle (101.5) and Thornton Academy (98.5), and ahead of Cheverus (35).

James Mina (sr. 40 and sr. 200), Brian Van Dam (300 and int. 40) and Phil Lambert (int. 200 and int. hurdles) each won two events on the afternoon, while Brecht Moulin (600), Andy Clark (800) and Brendan Hamm (jr. 200) had first-place finishes as well.

The South Portland boys also did well Saturday, totaling 90.5 points, not far behind Biddeford (114) and Portland (96), but ahead of Windham (21). Thomas McCoubrey tossed his way to first in the shot put.

The Lady Riots received winning performances from Kendall Morong (jr. 400), Lindsay Soule (sr. 400), Hannah Gregor (sr. 800) and Abbey Cook (mile). They finished with 49.67 points, ahead of Portland (41.33), while Windham (108) topped the field and Biddeford (84) took second.

Cape Elizabeth’s track teams had strong outings at their Western Maine Conference meets Friday at USM. Both squads, however, finished a few points behind Falmouth.

Kevin Harrison continued his winning ways, taking first place in the sr. 200, the long jump and the triple jump. Other Cape winners were Dustin Turin (sr. hurdles and pole vault), Curtis Dulac (jr. 400) and Evan Bagley (sr. 400).

Blair Griffin (jr. 55 and jr. 200) won a pair of events for the Lady Capers, while Erin Gross (mile) and Naomi Odlin (pole vault) each had a first-place finish as well.

The Cape boys team finished ahead of four other teams with 177 points to Falmouth’s 188. The girls were even closer, with 159.5 points against Falmouth’s 165.5 in their seven-team field.
