The Cornelia Warren Foundation presented a check for $18,000 to help pay for six new defibrillators to the Westbrook Fire and Rescue Department last week.
The money, along with $45,000 from a recently acquired federal grant, will enable the department to replace all six of its existing defibrillators with newer technology. The federal grant received by the city received money came with the condition that the city had to find local money to pay for a portion of the new defibrillators.
This is the latest in a long line of donations to the city by the Warren Foundation, which also assisted in the purchase of Westbrook’s first defibrillator in the early 1980s. Since 1925, the foundation has donated over $5 million to the city.
The new defibrillators, manufactured by the Zoll Medical Corporation, are state-of-the-art according to American Heart Association standards. They will replace the units currently in service in the city’s ambulances and fire trucks.
