Legislators to host Keep ME Warm dinner
The Gorham legislative delegation will host a spaghetti dinner to raise money and awareness for the Keep ME Warm Fund – a public and private partnership to help those most in need with the rising cost of home heating fuel.
The spaghetti dinner will be held Feb. 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Little Falls Community Center on Gray Road in Gorham. The suggested donation is $6 for adults and $4 for children, and all money raised will be earmarked to help people in local communities.
“This is a great opportunity to support families in our communities and increase awareness of this issue,” Rep. Chris Barstow, D-Gorham, said. “This winter is going to be long and hard for many working people, and we have a responsibility to our community to try to help.”
Congress decided to send less money to Maine for home heating assistance than it did last year, prompting the Legislature to cover the shortfall. Without the added state funds, heating assistance was expected to run out by mid-January, a statement from the Maine House Majority office said.
“Here in Maine, we can’t leave our neighbors out in the cold, even though Washington decided it wasn’t a priority this year,” Rep. David Farrington, D-Gorham, said. “This dinner and others throughout the state are the right thing to do, so that we act fairly and help the working people in our communities.”
Anyone interested in volunteering, providing entertainment, or making a contribution to help sponsor the event so that all donations go to heating assistance, can contact Barstow, 841-7321.

Pre registration for the forum would be appreciated but not required. Those wishing to attend should call 287-1300 or go online to www.speaker.maine.gov/business
