As the annual Bishop’s Appeal comes to a close, Bishop Richard J. Malone is pleased to announce that the goal of $3.5 million has been exceeded. Thanks to the generosity of thousands of contributors across the state, donations were $50,000 more than the target.

This is the highest collection ever for the Appeal. The average gift was higher than in the past, and this latest campaign was the largest amount over goal since the year 2000 during the dot-com boom.

“I am so grateful to the wonderful parishioners throughout Maine who understand and support the important work of the Church,” Malone said. “It is truly humbling to fully appreciate the thought and care that went behind each pledge. It’s obvious the faithful are focusing on spreading the hopeful message of Jesus, strengthening individuals and the Church in their relationship with our Lord, and participating fully in the programs that touch thousands in Maine.”

Almost 20,000 Maine Catholics pledged to the Appeal which pays for more than 40 educational, pastoral and social programs. These include Religious Education, Youth Ministry, Catholic Schools, Campus Ministry, Hospital Chaplains, Prison Ministry, and certain Catholic Charities Maine programs such as Ministry to Persons with Disabilities, and more.
