Emily’s memorable birthday

Emily Mullen celebrated her 10th birthday last month with her friends on a sleigh ride at Horsefeathers Farm in Gorham.

She and her friends had fun on the scenic half hour sleigh ride through the woods. Then they warmed up by a fire in a cabin for the party.

Nixon to entertain

A magician, Bob Nixon, will be the featured entertainer when the Prides Corner Garden Club meets at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Prides Corner Church, 235 Pride St.

Post 197 meeting Jan. 17

Westbrook Memorial Post 197 of the American Legion will hold its regular monthly membership meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 300 Conant St. (Rt. 25) in Westbrook.

A shepherd’s pie dinner will be served at 5 p.m. for those attending the meeting. The ladies auxiliary unit members will meet the same day and time and are invited to join the legionnaires for the dinner.

Library hosts “Winter Wonderland”

Budding young artists ages 6 and older are invited to the Warren Memorial Library from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18. to create a “Winter Wonderland” mosaic art project.

Artists will design their own winter landscape by

adding a variety of materials to adhesive paper. A

wide range of materials such as bright papers, colored yarn, beads, glitter and other materials will be available for the kids’

creations.

Kathy Kigin, children’s services librarian, said this project requires no previous art experience and everyone is guaranteed a good time with a framed picture to take home.

The guest instructor is Kristine Beigel of the Creative Child in Gorham. There is no fee for this program, but space is limited, so call the library at 854-5891 to register.

Librarians to attend celebration

Two Walker Memorial librarians, Pat Larrabee and Jo Adamo, are traveling to Augusta today for the celebration in the Hall of Flags at the State House.

The celebration, an open house for library staff members, legislators and the public, honors the second annual Maine Library Week, Jan 8-14.
