On the job-Joe Carroll
What is your position with the city and how long have you been on the job?
I am a firefighter/ EMS provider. I’ve been with the department since Aug. 1.
What is your background? Where did you go to school?
I grew up in Gray. I joined the fire department there when I was 17. In 2002, I got hired by the Scarborough Fire Department.
What kind of duties does your job entail?
I work as a day firefighter here in Westbrook. I go on both fire and rescue calls.
What is the most likely way that your job causes you to interact with the general public?
Most of the time, it’s through emergency calls. Other than that, we get to interact with the public through inspections or fire prevention details.
What do you like most about your job?
I guess the interaction with the public, that’s really the best part. I definitely enjoy the interaction with the public
What do you like to do outside of work?
I play soccer a couple of times a week, I thoroughly enjoy doing that.
