Seniors to hear Doc’s Boys

The Westbrook Senior Citizens’ Club will be entertained by Doc’s Boys Band at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.

There won’t be a meeting on Monday, Jan. 16.

The seniors are planning a trip to see “Godspell” at Portland Players followed by a meal at DiMillo’s Restaurant. For more information, call 854-2292 or 854-2705.

Church luncheons resume

The weekly church luncheons will continue after the holidays beginning at noon on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St. The cost is $3.

Program for food addicts

A community informational meeting for Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Larrabee Village administration building, 30 Liza Harmon Drive.

The 12-step program is for people recovering from addictive eating. There are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins.

Everyone is welcome, including those who think they have a food problem or are concerned about someone who may. For more information, call Theresa at 998-6013.

Legion to meet

The Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 of the American Legion will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at their headquarters at 17 Dunn St.

A business meeting at 7 p.m. will follow the monthly dinner.

The Post 62 Building Corporation will meet at 7 p.m. today (Dec. 28), and the Post 62 Executive Board will also meet. Both meetings will be in the post headquarters.

Crabtree to address historians

Allen Crabtree will speak when the Westbrook Historical Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 17B Dunn St.

Crabtree of Sebago will speak about his experiences as a Red Cross volunteer in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.

The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.

Students entertain Woman’s Club

Nancy Curran said the Westbrook Woman’s Club enjoyed a “festive” music program at their recent meeting in the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.

Elaine Spiller, club program chair, introduced Patrick McCarthy, the choral music director at Westbrook High School and the high school chamber choir. The students sang many holiday numbers including some with piano accompaniment and others a cappella.

Curran said students and members enjoyed refreshments, which were prepared and served by Germaine Grant, committee chair, and her committee members Nancy Gowen, Madelyn Landry, Joyce Reynolds and Lucille Waite.

Club President Evelyn Meserve conducted the business meeting.

U.S. population growing

According to U.S. Census Bureau figures, the population of the United States was estimated to be 297,938,017 on Dec. 23.

The bureau said there was one birth every seven seconds, which equals 12,342 people being born each day; one death every 13 seconds, representing 6,646 deaths each day; and one migrant admitted every 25 seconds or 3,456 entering the country each day. The statistics show that there is a net gain of one person every 10 seconds.
