Legion meeting
The Hutchinson-Boulter Post 130 of the American Legion will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at 401 Bar Mills Road, Hollis.

Buxton namesake saw World War II service
Did you know that the British Royal Navy had a destroyer named HMS Buxton during World War II?
The former USS Edwards was launched in 1918 and later transferred from the U.S. Navy to the British fleet in 1940. It helped protect the shipping lanes to England from German submarines during World War II.
The destroyer was 314 feet long and displaced 1,215 tons. It had a crew of 120, including officers and enlisted sailors.
Buxton was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and was decommissioned in 1945 and scrapped in 1946.
Dining club, meals on wheels
The Buxton Dining Club meets 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Groveville Fire Station.
All ages are welcome, $2.75, 60 and over; $3 for those under 60. Meals on Wheels is also available.
