In the coming months, the Portland Water District is hosting guided moonlight and daytime snowshoe tours of the newly opened Chaffin Pond Preserve.

Full-moon snowshoe tours will occur Jan. 13, Feb. 13 and Mar. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Snowshoe by moonlight around the newly opened Chaffin Pond Preserve. As you hike the easy two-mile trail, you will learn about nocturnal animals and the natural history of the pond.

The trailhead is located off Route 302 in Windham, past the shopping district, behind Sherwin Williams.

Daytime snowshoe hikes are being held on Jan. 16, Feb. 10 and Mar. 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely snowshoe trek around the newly opened Chaffin Pond Preserve. As you hike the easy two-mile trail, you will learn about natural history, winter adaptations of species, and winter tree identification.

Hot chocolate and marshmallows will be provided at all events. All ages are welcome. Snowshoes and cross-country skis are not provided and space is limited. Please call 774-5961, ext. 3319 or sebagolake@pwd.org to reserve your spot.
