Gorham Town Councilor Matthew Robinson said at last week’s council meeting that he would not seek re-election to his seat next year.

Robinson, 39, who was first elected to the council in 2000 and reelected in 2003, said his three-year term expires next fall. He made the announcement early to allow potential candidates ample time to become familiar with town government.

Robinson did not respond to messages left by the American Journal seeking comment.

The announcement came during the Town Council meeting last week. This past year, Robinson was vice chairman of the council. He plans on remaining active in the political arena and might consider running for another elected post in Gorham next year.

Robinson serves on the council’s Ordinance Committee and chairs the Economic Development/Capital Improvements Committee. He also is the ad hoc representative to the Recreation Advisory Board.

Robinson and his wife, Melissa Robinson, live on Sanborn Street. They have resided in Gorham for nine years. The couple has a 9-year-old daughter, Samantha Hope Robinson.

A territory sales manager, Robinson has worked for Standard Motor Products for nearly 18 years. He graduated from high school in Levittown, Long Island, N.Y.
