Key concern: “I hope our defense carries us until the offense gets rolling.”

Coach’s outlook: “With three returning starters and some talented young players the team should be competitive and have chance at one of the 10 playoff spots.”

Boys Basketball

Coach: Jim Ray (12th year)

Last year’s record: 13-7

How did last season end? The Capers lost to Wells in the Western Maine quarterfinals.

Key veterans: Joe Geoghegan (senior center), Matt Allen (senior forward), Liam O’Shea (senior forward), Shaine Mathews-Burks (sophomore guard), Nick Goodykoontz (junior forward).

Key concern: Getting strong support off the bench.

Coach’s outlook: “The key to our success will be to jell as a unit and get strong support from our bench. We expect stiff competition throughout our schedule and will have to be prepared to play every night. I think we have a lot of potential to be a tournament contender but only time will tell.”

Boys Hockey

Coach: Jason Tremblay (second year)

Last year’s record: 20-2

How did last season end? The Capers won the Class B state championship.

Key veterans: Mike Kertes (forward), Drake Livada (forward), Kyle Dancause (forward), Joe Balfour (forward), Tom Rich (forward), Andrew Gibson (forward), Zach Juliano (defense), Ben Davis (defense), Ross Negele (defense), Matt Bernstein (goalie), Ryan Hatch (goalie)

Key concern: The Capers have a tough schedule, playing the top six teams in Class A.

Coach’s outlook: “We feel we have some experience along with youth that will develop as the season moves along. We have a group of players willing to do what it takes in order to achieve a high level of success.”

Nordic Skiing

Coach: Deven Morrill (fourth year)

How did last season end? The girls placed first at the state meet in Class B, and the boys placed second behind Caribou

Key veterans: Girls – Mary Kate Huebener, Clare Egan and Dana Riker. Boys – Colman Hatton and Graham Egan.

Key concern: The boys should be right there again and there’s a chance the girls will be too if they can overcome the loss of Elise Moody-Roberts (to private school) and Kate Barton (to graduation).

Coach’s outlook: “We will be the school to beat going into this winter. The boys are all back and are ready to ski fast – we will be able to contend with Caribou at the states. The girls will have to rebuild after losing our top two skiers. The depth is great enough that we should have a good chance to take the states again.”

Swimming & Diving

Coach: Kerry Kertes (13th year)

Last season’s records: Girls (7-3); boys (6-3)

How did last season end? The girls finished fourth at the state meet, while the boys were sixth.

Key veterans: Girls – Alice Evans, Chelsea Stephenson, Laura Williamson, Kinsey Tarbell, Alexandra Ciraldo, Lilly Wennberg, Helen Evans, Anna Mae Reed, Abby Delahanty and Jessica Danielson. Boys – Reilly Taylor, Joe Goodglass, Nick Daly, Bogie Foden, Lindi Rrako, Sean Campbell, Peter Alexander and Miles Kelly.

Key newcomers: Girls – Nora Daly, Shannon Flaherty, Rosie Wennberg, Melanie Pinette, Emma Logan Loring, Paige St. Germain, Meredith Sells and Emily O’Neil. Boys – Stefan Monaghan, Alex McFarlane and James McKinney.

Key concern: Girls – “None. They’re a great bunch of hard workers.” Boys – “None. They’re hard workers like the girls.”

Coach’s outlook: “Our numbers are about the same as last year with 16 boys and about 30 girls. The kids are having great early season conditioning practices.”

Boys Track

How did last season end? Third in the WMC championships, third at the state meet

Key veterans: Kevin Harrison, Kyle Toot, Doug Ginn, Ben Weimont, Jon Butterworth, Nate Gray, Daley Gruen and Pat Murphy

Key concern: “Quick development of newcomers, as well as the shot put, high jump and distance running.”

Coach’s outlook: “We should place in top three in the class B states. This is our strongest team in a very long time.”

Girls Track
