Trinity Christmas pageant

Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St. in Westbrook will be observing Christmas this year with a very different and old fashion pageant at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18.

Brenda Orach, a church spokeswoman, said the pageant hopes to give meaning to the phrase “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Elsie Reese, a retired costume designer from Trinity, has used donated fabric given by the congregation to make an array of costumes.

The combined players and choir of more than 50 youngsters and adults will “delight the eye and the ear” with a story woven around the ancient biblical hopes and the birth stories of the Jesus nativity, Orach said.

Some of the set design and lighting will be a surprise. One little historical specialty is the coverlet for the infant – an intricate piece of needlework from the home of Danish immigrants who brought it here in their migration to a new land. Trinity is pleased to have costumes and set pieces that are all homemade.

The public is invited to share in the observance and also to join in a sandwich supper and carol sing-along immediately following the pageant.
