On Monday, Dec. 5, the USM Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Michelle Snow, will feature student jazz vocalists in a special benefit performance for Hurricane Relief in the Hannaford Hall, Abromson Center, on the USM Portland campus. Presented in conjunction with the University Neighborhood Organization and the USM Honors Program, this is the culminating event to a day-long blood drive by the American Red Cross. The concert is at 7 p.m. A $5 donation is requested.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, students in Opera Workshop will perform scenes from favorite operas, directed by Ellen Chickering. Selected music is from Wolfgang A. Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” and “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Orfeo and Euridice” by Christoph Willibald von Gluck, “The Tales of Hoffman” by Jacques Offenbach, “The Ballad of Baby Doe” by Douglas Moore, and others. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $3 for seniors and students.
Then on Monday, Dec. 12, join the fun of a very special holiday sing-along! And have the chance of a lifetime to sing Handel’s “Messiah” with the Choral Art Society and the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, both conducted by Robert Russell! The free event gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
The latter two events take place in Corthell Concert Hall on the USM Gorham campus. Call the Music Box Office at 780-5555.
