Danish Lutheran Church

On Nov. 2, 1892, a meeting was held in the home of Mads Neilsen and the First Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Westbrook was organized under the guidance of Rev. K. D. Faegre.

The congregation at first met in the basement of the Warren Congregational Church on Sunday afternoons. The Ladies Circle was organized in 1891 and raised money to purchase land at Main and School streets to build a church. Most of the money for the construction of the church was collected from the Danish people of Westbrook.

On New Year’s Day 1893, the church was dedicated and all services were conducted in the Danish language until 1905, when one English service a month was held.

The church has expanded and been remodeled several times over the years.
