Sportshoe Center, primary sponsor of the annual Maine Marathon, announced last week that it has donated $45,000 for Camp Sunshine, an overnight camp located in Casco serving children with life threatening illnesses and their families.

“Camp Sunshine is a retreat from the anxiety, stress, and fear families face when dealing with life-threatening illnesses,” said Camp Sunshine Executive Director Matt Hoidal.

This is the fourteenth year the race was held in Portland. Race host and sponsor Sportshoe Center, as well as other race sponsors are proud that 47 percent of dollars raised go directly to nonprofits involved.

“This year’s race was one of the best yet,” remarked Race Director Howard Spear. “The weather was perfect, the course following Portland’s Back Bay past Mackworth Island to Falmouth Foreside is appropriately challenging and extraordinarily scenic. The best part is knowing that our contribution will help children and their families get a break from their own challenges and enjoy quality family time together.”
