Polls opened at 6 a.m. in Buxton and Registrar of Voters Joan Weeman said people were waiting in line to cast ballots at Town Hall.

By 9:30 a.m., 500 had voted. Weeman called the early morning turnout “heavy” in Buxton.

A Town Hall spokeswoman said 2,000 had voted by 6 p.m.

Dr. Louis Taxiarchis voted on Tuesday morning in Buxton.
