I am writing in support of City Councilor Brendan Rielly who is running for re-election in Ward One. Brendan has been a tireless advocate for Westbrook and its citizens during his terms as a city councilor. He has balanced the economic needs of the city while protecting its rich historic and cultural value.

Brendan’s record shows that he understands the difference between acting proactively and acting with haste. He makes sure that he and his constituents have all information necessary before making a balanced, informed decision. Brendan also finds solutions in innovative ways, such as his creation of the Riverwalk Art and Music Festival, which is now in its fourth year and the Westbrook Education Foundation.

Brendan is not only a city councilor, but a concerned citizen in his own right. Brendan grew up in Westbrook, and his children now attend the same schools and churches he once attended. His leadership in the community is not limited to his service on the City Council. He teaches religious education classes and is an active participant in Rebuilding Together Greater Portland, which rehabilitates homes so that homeowners may continue to live independently in warmth and safety. Many Westbrook citizens have benefited from the services of this organization, which Brendan brought to the area a number of years ago.

Although I no longer live in Westbrook, my concerns for the future of my hometown and the town where my family continues to live has not diminished. Brendan has served the city of Westbrook well in the past, and I urge the voters of Ward One to allow him to continue to represent them.
