The rezoning of the Saunders Brothers mill from Industrial to Gateway Commercial to clear the way for Wal-Mart to possibly come to Westbrook (favored)
I am in favor of the rezoning of the Saunders mill from Industrial to Gateway Commercial.
Pay-as-you-throw trash pickup and curbside recycling (opposed)
I do not support a pay-as-you-throw trash program. We need to implement a recycling program, which I whole-heartedly support. However, a pay per bag program is just adding another cost to our taxpayers they shouldn’t have to pay for.
The city purchasing land on Saco Street to market it as the Westbrook Heights Business Park (favored)
I supported Westbrook Heights Business Park.
How would you have voted on this year’s school budget? (favored)
I voted to support the school budget. The school committee did an excellent job in managing the school budget. To ask them to add another $1 million or so in cuts, as Mayor Chuluda wanted, would have had a monumental impact on the quality of education to our children. We need to send a strong message to all parents in this community and that is we support quality education for all children in this city.
The potential redevelopment of Saccarappa Park as a combination commercial building/public park (favors)
I favor the redevelopment of Saccarappa Park as a combination commercial/public green space.
Paper streets have been a major source of contention in the city recently. How would you have dealt with residents’ complaints about old paper streets being used for development?
The mayor and his administration met with the developers six months prior to construction. The residents and council had absolutely no idea that this was going to be developed until the bulldozers came in. The mayor and his administration should have informed the residents and council about this project so that we could have dealt with it before the ground was destroyed. He had an opportunity to communicate this to many people and he chose not to.
What can be done to help lower Westbrook property taxes?
We can lower taxes by streamlining operations and attracting quality commercial development.
What do you want to see done to improve parking in the city?
A committee has been established to analyze the parking issues we face and will look at the report to determine what ideas can help with our downtown parking.
