My name is Tyler and I go to Wentworth Intermediate School in Scarborough. My fifth grade class participated in Coastal Clean Up Week 2005, and we cleaned up Ferry Beach in Scarborough, Maine. We were amazed to find out how much trash there was on or near the beach. In this letter I will share with you some of the data we found and also some of the observations we made.

We found a lobster trap and a dog bone. The lobster trap was filled with trash. We found 542 cigarette butts, 52 pieces of rope and twine, 62 bottles and broken glass, over ten dog scats, and the total amount of items was 1,025. I think that people shouldn’t be throwing their cigarettes on the ground and dog scats, also all the litter. I think it would be helpful if they put more trash bins on the beach. That way it’s not as likely for people to litter.
